A few days ago, Mozilla announced on its upcoming releases blog that it will allow Firefox beta users to test the Social API with Facebook Messenger. And let me tell you Facebook Messenger for Firefox page is live on the Facebook site, you need to be using Aurora or Firefox nightly build to enable and test it, currently not working on Firefox 17 beta.
Firefox wants users to access social sites like Facebook without visiting the tabs, Facebook Messenger is the first service to be integrated into Firefox as part of the Social API test. Mozilla has been working with Facebook for some time now on this.
Activating Facebook Messenger for Firefox
1. In Aurora or night visit the call https://www.facebook.com/about/messenger-for-firefox.
2. Click Turn on button, which activates Facebook Messenger in Firefox and also the sidebar which you can see on the right side.
2. Use the login button on the sidebar to login to Facebook, where the sidebar shows all your friends and the chat window allows you to chat with people while browsing.
3. After the Firefox search box in the navigation toolbar, you can see the Facebook icon that allows you to switch sidebar view and desktop notifications, the friend requests icon allows you to access all your friend requests, the Messages button to access all your messages, Notifications to view all notifications. Except for the Facebook icon, another one appears only when you enter Facebook Messenger.
The Facebook Messenger page for Firefox reads as below
Messenger for FirefoxTrack friends wherever you go on the web
Chat while browsing: stay connected without having to click
Get Notified Immediately: See new comments, photo tags and more instantly.
Facebook Messenger for Firefox does not work in Beta version
In Firefox beta right now, when you activate Facebook Messenger, nothing happens at the moment. The same page in another browser such as Chrome prompts you to get the latest version of Firefox to use this feature which currently points to the Firefox beta download page.
