Bring Mac-Like Dock to Windows 7 with Winstep Nexus

If you want to get the Mac-like Dock in Windows 7 that lets you access and switch between apps quickly, you can use Winstep Nexus Freeware provides one-click access to frequently used applications, folders and documents without having to sacrifice your taskbar.

Using Winstep Nexus

After installing the application dock appears at the top of the screen with files, folders and virtual objects includes Nexus Control Icon, Start Menu, Clock, Recycler, CPU Meter, Weather Gadget, RAM meter and desktop screen capture talking tool. You can right-click the Nexus control icon and get all the options from the context menu, such as inserting a new dock icon, preferences, screen position, you can lock the icons. Click the “capture desktop” icon to save the current screenshot of the desktop to the desktop.

You can hide the dock by double clicking the control icon, right click on it to get the context menu. You can open Nexus Preferences with Ctrl + F11 shortcut or Control icon context menu by selecting preferences. You can add a new item to the dock by dragging and dropping explorer shortcuts onto the Dock, similarly you can remove any item in the dock by right-clicking and selecting “Remove from dock” from the context menu or simply dragging and dropping for the Recycler module will also do the job.

By default, all running apps will not be shown in the dock, which you can enable under “Running apps” to Happy tab. If you’re running a lot of apps, the dock expands horizontally to make room for the icons. If you hover your mouse pointer over these icons, the explanation shown in tooltips can be toggled on/off in the General tab in Preferences.

By default, the dock will be displayed at the top of the screen, from which you can change Position tab in preferences for any of the Bottom/Left/Right options. You can prevent maximized windows from overlapping in the position tab. You can automatically hide the dock after a short delay (option can be found at Behavior tab) that you can activate with the mouse pointer by hovering the mouse over the edge of the screen.

You can control icon spacing, icon size, dock transparency in the Appearance section. You can select and apply different themes to the dock in the Themes tab, preview of the dock shown in the right pane in the theme selection.

This app is not resource intensive, although you can make this app less resource intensive by disabling any/all three window thumbnails, module icon caching, magnification, in the performance settings under the Advanced tab in preferences. Beautify the way the dock function may not be experienced when disabling these features, so it’s best to leave them as they are.

If you’ve changed the dock settings and want to revert to the default, you can do so in the troubleshooting options on the Advanced tab.
