Fix: Firefox.exe – System Error “The program cannot start because pgort100.DLL is missing..”

When you try to start Firefox from its desktop shortcut or Start menu, you may get Firefox.exe – system error dialog with message ‘The program cannot start because pgort100.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem’ followed by another ‘Cannot load XPCOM’ error dialog. Let’s see how to fix these errors and start Firefox again.

Firefox cannot load XPCOM

We faced a similar type of error for Chrome in the past which showed “The program cannot start because asan_rtl.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to resolve this issue.” At that time, copying the asan_rtl.dll file to the chrome directory fixed the issue.

Here, we don’t need to copy or download the pgort100.dll file, but removing the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files and reinstalling Firefox will suffice.

Fixing firefox.exe – System Error and Unable to Load XPCOM Errors

1. Download the full Firefox installer from the Mozilla website in another browser and save it to your hard drive.

2. Now navigate to “C:Program Files” for 32-bit or “C:Program Files (x86)” for 64-bit Windows, select and permanently delete “Mozilla Firefox” folder with Shift + Del key combination .

3. Now reinstall Firefox with the configuration file you downloaded earlier, if you start Firefox now, it will start without errors.

Fix Firefox Error ‘Bookmarks and history system will not work because..’

Note: You don’t have to worry about extensions, plugins, bookmarks and other installed data when you delete the Mozilla Firefox folder because the Firefox profile folder will be kept in a separate location from the installed Firefox directory. So deleting the Firefox folder does not affect your profile data.
