Google says its service will be best used when all profiles are public and people can be searched easily and find you through the search engine and connect with you online.
Another point to consider – Google+ will be integrated with all Google services, you will get Google+ notifications and you will have access to it directly from any Google service like Gmail, Google Docs, Google search when you log into your Google account . So the Google+ notification icon flashes whenever you are on any Google website when someone adds to your circles or posts comments on your posts, which is more of a distraction than anything else (of course the BlockPlus extension for Chrome helps overcome this).

Before disabling Google+ profile backup, please backup your Google+ profile data.
Deactivate/Delete Google Plus Profile

2. Click on your full name or email address
3. Click on “Account Settings” and you will be in the Account Overview tab
4. Under Services “next to “Delete profile and social features”, click the “Delete profile and remove associated social features” link.
