It’s not a secret that I use AVG Antivirus Free edition on my computer, two days ago I uninstalled AVG Free Anti-Virus and installed 30 days trial in AVG Internet Security 9.0 to see how it works. Today I decided to go back to AVG Anti-Virus Free edition, I’m really worried if I need to uninstall AVG Trial and reinstall AVG free again, but it’s not the case that we can downgrade from AVG Trial to AVG free without uninstalling AVG Trial, let’s see how.
To update: Use AVG Downgrader to convert AVG trial version to free version
Switch to AVG free version of AVG Trial without uninstalling AVG Trial
1. In Windows XP, go to Start>Control Panel>add or remove programs and select ‘AVG trial’ version and click ‘remove’.
In Windows 7, Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select AVG trial and click ‘uninstall’
2. Now AVG uninstall wizard asks you, you can convert full installation to AVG free if you like, click Convert to AVG Free, and that’s it in a second you get Convert to AVG Free dialog box saying “conversion was successful”.
Update September 15, 2014: When you start to uninstall AVG Internet Security, for example latest v2015, AVG Uninstaller offers ‘downgrade’ button, which when you click, switches AVG to free protection (check screenshot above), after requested changes are made, you need to restart your computer.
You now have a free license of AVG Free Antivirus Protection installed on your computer without the need to uninstall AVG Trial and then reinstall AVG Free Antivirus.
