Mosaic Desktop brings the Windows 8 Metro interface to Windows 7 [Almost]

We’ve covered several apps so far, such as Mosaic, Omnimo4 skin, which brings the metropolitan UI from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Mosaic Desktop formerly freeware Mosaic application now with greatly improved user interface with a set of live widgets that pull content from the web or your PC and displayed on your screen. You need to customize Mosaic Desktop by adding some widgets you use (like Gmail, Hotmail and others) and pinning some apps and websites.

Using Mosaic Desktop

Download the program file and extract its contents to a folder and run the Mosaic Desktop executable. You have to wait as the app takes time to load its full screen UI with two Clock widgets and mosaic shop.

You can click the arrow in the right corner of the screen to open Side bar which has options for pinning apps and websites to the UI. You can install widgets from the Mosaic Store. These widgets include: Control Panel .Weather, Gmail, Hotmail, Music, Images , Twitter, Desktop, Me (user) and so on. in total 13 widgets to choose from in the Store. User needs to install each widget separately.

Friends The function in the sidebar opens a pop-up window with the Facebook login page to use Mosaic. After logging in, script errors appear and just like other apps, you need to allow Mosaic to access your Facebook account information.

In the app’s options/settings you can

  • Show Windows taskbar in full screen mode.
  • Disable boot animation
  • Disable full screen mode
  • Disable widget animation.
  • You can automatically start Mosaic with Windows.

It is better for the user to enable the app to show the taskbar in full screen mode, making it easy to switch between Windows taskbar apps. Disabling fullscreen mode is not recommended as some HTML-based widgets are only visible in fullscreen.

Mosaic still buggy, stops responding sometimes and there is no way to minimize the application results on the user when running more than one instance of the program. All in all, it’s a great experience for users who can’t wait for Windows 8.

This application requires .Net framework 4.0 to be installed on your computer to work.
