Mozilla replaces new tab page with activity stream

fire Fox browser new guide page has been replaced by Activity Stream, which is now released as a system add-on in version 57 and is no longer a pilot text experiment. Activity flowwhich Mozilla says helps you ‘rediscover the things you love most on the web’, displays thumbnails of top sites along with highlights of your bookmarks and browsing history.

For each thumbnail displayed in Top Sites, these options are available from the context menu: pin, edit, open in new window, open in new private window, dismiss and delete from history.

highlights shows pages you have recently visited or bookmarked (limiting one per domain).

Parts: After completing the onboarding tour, Firefox shows Mozilla updates.

They can be removed by unchecking the sections in New Tab Preferences, click on the cog and choose what you want to see on the new tab page.

The hidden preference for AS is ‘browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled’, you can toggle this preference value to false to get the old new tab page, but this preference won’t last as long as we know.

These are the default activity stream sites, which you can find at about:config.

Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, Reddit, Wikipedia and Twitter. Firefox only displays them when the browser has no history to fetch and display the data, such as new installations of Firefox.

FYI, Mozilla has already tested the experimental version of Activity Stream with Pocket integration, which you will be able to see in later versions of the activity stream.
