Picasa update brings automatic Google+ backup to desktop

Picasa for Windows and Mac has been updated, the new version 137.69 includes Google+ Auto Backup which automatically saves photos and videos you choose to your computer and other devices and they will be kept private until you share them. To get started, install Picasa and when the ‘Google+ Auto Backup’ dialog pops up after clicking ‘set up automatic backup’, log in to your Google Account and choose folders and devices and click the ‘start backup’ button.

The system tray photos icon shows the backup progress, you can pause the backup or change preferences by right clicking on this icon. By default, full-size photos and videos will use Google Drive storage space. You always have the option to change to the standard size. All your auto-backed photos and videos can be found at photos.google.com.

Other changes in Picasa 3.9 version 137.69 are

  • Updates to RAW support to include newer cameras.
  • Patches for image manipulation.
  • Updated file size limits for uploads: 50 MB or 100 MP.
  • The “Edit in Creative Kit” function has been removed.
