Where do unsaved captures in Snagit go?

If you save the captured Snagit images to your hard drive, that’s fine, in case you forgot to save them, this is the article that tells you where to find them on your computer. Even if you don’t save captures, Snagit automatically stores them in your DataStore folder. So, you can visit that folder and save unsaved captures in the regularly saved directory on your system.

Finding the location of unsaved Snagit captures

Paste the path below into the Run dialog box on your Windows OS.

On Windows XP: C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataTechSmithSnagItDataStore

On Windows Vista/7/8 and Windows 10: %LOCALAPPDATA%TechSmithSnagItDataStore

The DataStore folder contains images with SNAG extension format, so you need to open them in the Snagit editor and save them in a desired image format, such as PNG or JPEG.

For example, to set the DataStore folder to a custom folder you want in Snagit 13, open Snagit Editor, File > Editor Preferences > Library,

Click folder icon for ‘Library Location’ in browser and set.
